I'M Barbra (spelled like Streisand)

I've been painting since I was 7 years old when my Dad challenged me to paint a river scene. I haven't stopped since then.

My formal training was at Newark School of Fine Arts. I like to say we could see Manhattan but it was still New Jersey. I was an art director, illustrator and set designer before settling on painting.

I create my paintings using oil and mixed media that are layered on canvas. The process gives my work depth and enhances texture. I follow the shapes created by the texture allowing the painting to move on its own. From there, I create a sky, a wave or an abstract. I never really know. That's the joy of it all.

What I've been doing

Commissioned paintings for residential and commercial clients, gallery exhibitions and anything requiring a paint brush has kept me involved in the art world for over 30 years. My most memorable sale was to Oprah Winfrey through a gallery in Winston Salem, NC. She was visiting Maya Angelou. Lucky me.
