Barbra creates her paintings using oils and mixed media layered on the canvas. Each layer is varnished, sanded and burnished. This process gives her work depth and enhances the texture. She follows the shapes of the texture allowing the painting to move on its own. “I try very hard to step back and see where the shapes fall and from there I create a sky, an abstract or a tree. I never really know. That’s the joy of it all,” said Myers.

Barbra studied at Newark School of Fine Arts in Newark, New Jersey. Locally, she was a student of Barclay Sheaks, an acclaimed Virginia artist.

Her commissioned paintings, illustrations and numerous gallery exhibitions have kept her involved in the art world for over 30 years. She recently exhibited her work in a solo show at The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. Her work includes paintings for the headquarters of Fidelity Insurance in Covington, La, Kelly’s Tavern in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, First National Bank Of Lynchburg, the law offices of Williams Mullen in Richmond , four Joel Bieber  offices, Sun Trust Bank in Virginia Beach, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem and Oprah Winfrey’s home in Maui.
